Facts on LGBTIQ+ in sports
LGBTIQ+ people are underrepresented in sports compared to others. Why is this?
Three keys to successful inclusion of LGBTQ+
We have formulated three strategies—three keys—for how sports should reach a desired situation where sexual orientation and gender identity are not experienced as the barriers they are today. The three keys are: 1. Don't assume. 2. Speak up. 3. Zero tolerance for hateful expressions and discrimination.
Most people who come out are well received
Even though many see sports as a difficult place to be openly LGBTIQ+, experiences show that most are positively surprised when they come out. We believe that sports are better than their reputation. Sports have an "image problem" and must "come out of the closet" as inclusive.
– Many concrete measures that can make sports more inclusive
We have developed a wide range of concrete tools and proposals for measures at the club level, federation level, and political level, which can make sports even more inclusive for LGBTIQ+ athletes.
Since 1995
Raballder Handball has existed since 1995 and has always worked for a more inclusive sports environment. Queer Sports Competence was established as its own competence unit in 2023 and works together with sports for our common goal: The joy of sports for all.
